Meet: Teresa Printable Version PRINTABLE VERSION

Culture , Media , Languages   Interviews

Meet: Teresa Teresa was, until recently, TakingITGlobal's Chinese Language & Engagement Coordinator. I had the pleasure of working with her over the past six months and getting to know her and the team a little better. You can get to know her, too, by visiting her Profile Page here

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I was born and raised in Hong Kong. I graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a major in Anthropology. I also studied in Copenhagen, Denmark and Hawai'i, USA. I love traveling and meeting new friends. I also enjoy singing and cooking.

2. How did you become an on-line volunteer?

Last year I participated in the Asia-Pacific Leadership Program at the East West Center in Hawai'i. There, I met new friends who were passionate about bringing positive change to the world. A friend of mine who knew I am passionate about youth development recommended I apply for a volunteer position at TIG and that's how it all started for me!

3. What kind of tasks do you normally perform?

As a Chinese Language and Engagement Coordinator, I recruited our team members (18 students working as translators, researchers and facilitators) and developed and implemented a 6-month plan to make the Chinese language platform more active. I also provided regular support to different team members and ensured we worked well as a team.

4. What are your overall thoughts on the experience?

I really enjoyed the experience and I hope that my team mates had an opportunity to learn from each other, too. I also think it we would all benefit from interacting with other on-line volunteers from the various language platforms- because that's the strength of on-line volunteering!
