As I reflect on 2007,
I look back; see my friend Rueben go to heaven.
So much hurt, heartache and tears,
I'm lucky to have made it though last year, it appears.
Because so many of my people made their exit,
It has me wondering who life’s coming next at.

I wish I could take away my mother's pain,
Feeling helpless had me going insane.
It’s really been a battle and it’s so stressful,
When you’re trying so hard just to be successful.
But every day I tried to keep hope,
And I prayed, God just give me the strength to cope.
A lot of bridges were burned last year,
A lot of friendships have disappeared.
So many issues, they came abundantly,
Every day felt like life was testing me,
Around every corner, forces were protesting,
But the race isn't over, I’m still contesting.

I couldn’t slip. I had to do what I had to,
Because today, if you're soft, life will take you for a fool.
I learned a lot of lessons through last year,
About respect, love, loyalty and fear.
In this world, there’s a lot of backstabbers here,
But I’m getting my mind right- now I see clear.
Yeah I've been snubbed, yeah it made me frown,
But you know you can’t keep a good dog down.
So I’ll keep speaking my word to the year whatever.
When will I lose my edge? The answer is never.
