Stamp out violation of human rights
ONE of the greatest achievements of this century has been the awareness by the international community of the role of human rights as the foundation for progress, development, democracy and prosperity.
I believe Papua New Guinea share the concerns of the international community to protect and supervise fundamental rights of its citizens.
The Government should take this opportunity to provide our people with the necessary capacity to fully discharge its mandate in the field of human rights.
At the dawn of the 29th year of independence, violation of human rights remain among the main challenges to civilization; they are a threat to peace, security and sustained development of our nation Papua New Guinea.
Let me add as the voice of young people today. We must, and I repeat, we must be constantly aware of our duties for the common good.
I believe this will help build a solid foundation for unity, economic, environmental, intellectual and social well being of our people to the enjoyment of a democratic way of life.
I believe the real challenge for our government today is to strengthen the binding nature of this existing system of norms.
I now call upon business community, Government and Papua New Guineans to work together to bring about the social and economic development necessary to further the well being of all our people.
Infrastructure development and renewal is one area in which greater cooperation could exist to ensure that these issues must be addressed more effectively.
I wish to take this moment to recognize our political leaders roles as a powerful force of progress in actively participating for many years to modernize and reshape our country
