The Intercultural
Dialogue Podcast

The world is fast becoming a sphere of global connectivity and information exchange; what does this mean for our different cultures? Many cultures have been lost forever, which may indicate that the world is slowly moving towards a single, unified culture that does not preserve traditions that have been established over centuries. What is it like to exist between two or more cultures? Does the hybridization of cultures mean that we always have to choose between cultures, or can we mix and match, creating a unique, individual one?

Wall of Experience

This month`s wall of experience is based upon the themes of transition and belonging. While dealing with changes between periods of our lives, we often seem to forget that our thoughts, emotions, actions, and above all, decisions, might not be too different from those of others. Sometimes, a simple thought from somone who has gone through a similar experience can change our perspective on the situation at hand. Transitioning from school to university or work, and learning to live on your own can be a big step towards independence. Check out the experiences from the Beyond Graduation communitt to see if any strike the chord of with you, or, add your own stories

Intercultural Dialogue on Diversity:

Defining culture is no easy task because it means many different things to many people. There are easily as many definitions of "culture" as there are cultures in the world!

Culture as defined by the UNESCO as, "the set of distinctive spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional features of society or a social group and that it encompasses in addition to art and literature, lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions and beliefs." Enabling citizens from different cultural backgrounds to engage in dialogue allows us to examine aspects of culture which we do not normally recognize because they are ingrained so deeply in our identity. Find out more about Diversity and Intercultural Dialogue on our Global Issues Page.
