Welcome to the Dispatch

August is a busy month for TakingITGlobal and the Online Community! Major events like the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City and the 4th World Youth Congress in Québec City will be keeping everyone busy and bringing a lot of exciting content to the Online Community! With all of the running around so many TakingITGlobal members will be doing this month it seems appropriate that one of our featured issues this summer (or winter, for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere!) is Fitness and Sport. It is important, not only in terms of your health, but also the feelings of achievement, sportmanship, and leadership that go along with participating in sports. There are many great organizations using sports and fitness to involve youth more in their communities and inspiring peace and cooperation. Visit our Fitness and Sport page to learn more about the role Fitness and Sport can play in community development all over the world.

Featured Country: Mexico

Featured Country: MexicoThe first week of August the capital of Mexico, Mexico City, will be hosting the XVII International AIDS Conference, during which thousands of activists, researchers, politicians and scientists will join the inhabitants of the second largest metropolitan area in the world, at a population of approximately 20 million people. These visitors to Mexico are no doubt looking forward to taking advantage of Mexico's reputation for great food and vibrant cultural life! Mexico is famous for beautiful beaches, as well as the ruins of the Aztec Empire, a powerful and advanced civilization that was destroyed during Spanish colonization of the area.

Visit the Mexico Country page and read one of the member stories or blogs from Mexico!

ReGénération 2008

ReGÈnÈration 2008 From August 10th to the 21st Québec City will host youth leaders from all over the world for the 4th Annual World Youth Congress. It will include a Virtual Congress, a platform for youth attending the congress, as well as those who were unable to attend physically, to join discussions, check out photos and remain updated on all the latest from the conference as it happens!

Mexico City YouthForceMexico City YouthForce

TakingITGlobal is proud to be part of the Mexico City YouthForce 2008! The YouthForce supported the participation of youth in the XVII International AIDS Conference and helped them advocate for youth issues at the conference. Half of all new HIV infections are among youth aged 15-24. Statistics like these make it clear how important it is for youth to have a strong presence and be given a voice at conferences like these. A team of Youth Journalists covered both the Youth Pre-Conference and the XVII International AIDS Conference through blogging, photography, podcasting and video to ensure that youth everywhere are informed of developments at both conferences.

Check out the official YouthForce site to learn more about the YouthForce and its activities and experience the conference through the eyes of youth.

Dialogue on SexualityDialogue on Sexuality

Although sexuality and related topics have been popular on our Discussion Board, TakingITGlobal has never before directly addressed this issue in our online magazine Panorama. We will be collecting articles for the 'Dialogue on Sexuality' issue throughout the month of August. While the XVII International AIDS Conference goes on in Mexico City this month the issue of youth and sexuality, sexual health and other related topics will no doubt be on many people's minds.

Help us to open up a dialogue on youth and sexuality: your sexual health, your sexual rights, your sexual education, and more. Learn more and contribute your perspective on an important, yet often neglected, topic. Contribute your writing.
