Welcome to the Dispatch!
This month's dispatch features TakingITGlobal's and The XVI International AIDS Conference which was held in Toronto, August 13-18th. It was the largest international conference on a single health issue. Delegates included Bill Clinton, Bill & Melinda Gates, Stephen Lewis, and over 1000 young people from around the world! You can read and view pictures of TIG's involvement in the Scrapbook.
TakingITGlobal was a member of the coordinating committee for the Toronto YouthForce (TYF), a coalition of non-governmental and international organizations. The TYF was formed to raise the visibility of youth HIV/AIDS issues, and help young people to meaningfully participate before, during, and after AIDS 2006 through concrete action.
TakingITGlobal was contracted to develop and maintain the official AIDS 2006 Youth Site, which featured articles, blogs, podcasts, discussion boards and other helpful resources for youth delegates. The site was also a great way of including youth who were unable to attend the conference. Check it out: Youth Aids 2006 Site.
The Toronto YouthForce worked in partnership with the official AIDS 2006 Youth Programme, and TakingITGlobal was instrumental in sharing its experience with youth engagement, communications, and technology. TakingITGlobal was heavily involved in the creation and programming of the Youth Pavilion at the conference, a great space for forums, sessions, and meeting other international youth.
TakingITGlobal also spearheaded TYF media and communications initiatives, and brought together 11 international youth journalists to make up the YouthForce Media Team.

Featured Country Site: Sweden
Sweden, perhaps best known for its generous social welfare system, is located in that northern part of Europe known also as Scandinavia. Christianized over the course of the 11th and 12th centuries, Sweden was incorporated into the confederacy of Nordic states, or Kalmar Union as it was called, in the year 1397. Gustav Vasa , or the father of the Swedish nation (Sveriges landsfader), not only fought for independence and paved the way for a future Swedish empire, but also established the Reformation Church..
Two well-known Swedish culinary specialties are koettbullar (meatballs) and inlggd sill (brined herring). Home to the majestic reindeer, the Land of the Midnight Sun can trace its form of popular government back to Viking times. The Nobel Academy in Stockholm, the countrys capital, awards the prestigious Nobel Awards every year, a legacy of the late scientist and explosives manufacturer Alfred Nobel.
This month, we invite you to explore alongside us Swedens many hidden treasures! Skll!
