    Live Chat Events

TakingITGlobal is pleased to announce two live chat events in September. September 11th, 2011 will mark six months since a massive earthquake, subsequent tsunami and nuclear meltdown hit Fukushima, Japan. Young people in Japan have been at the forefront of clean up and recovery efforts, volunteering in affected areas, as well as raising funds for disaster relief. To mark the six month anniversary, TakingITGlobal is holding a live chat featuring three young people from Japan who will discuss their roles in the recovery, as well as recount the devastation caused by those disastrous events. The Live Chat will be set up as a discussion panel, with brief talks by presenters, followed by a question and answer period. Join us to get a first-hand perspective from youth just like you. On September 19th, TakingITGlobal invites you to join us in a live chat featuring young people from London speaking out about how they feel about the London Riots, its media coverage, and the resulting arrests.

Year of Youth Wrap-up!

We've reached the end of the United Nations' Year of Youth, celebrating dialogue and mutual understanding among and for youth. Throughout this year, the UN has sought to promote peace, freedom, progress and solidarity towards creating independent free thinking youth who can act as leaders for fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals. To mark this occasion, TakingITGlobal is reaching out to its members around the world in a live chat event in the month of September.

The chat will be an opportunity for young leaders and hopeful change makers to think back on this year and share their experiences in trying to reach their goals. Tell your story of interesting members you've met through TIG! Are they still on TIG? Have you met them in real life? How did you connect? The chat will be a Q & A led by TakingITGlobal's Online Animator, Adrian Lachance.

Also make sure to check out the TIG Year of Youth blog, where we want you to contribute your thoughts, reflections, experiences, work, and connections from the past year! Join this group blog and participate now, and document your impact in your communities, and the world, today.

Defining Moments Art Contest

Become a storyteller! Defining Moments is currently seeking art submissions of all mediums for its art contest. This local initiative enables Canadian youth between the ages of 13 and 30 to explore their Canadian identity through regionally coordinated workshops, a national art contest and a traveling exhibition. You don't have to be an established artist, all you'll need is to let your thoughts become expressed through photography, video, dance, song, drama, poetry, collage or any medium of your choice. Art pieces should reflect a story or a point of view on being a Canadian citizen or resident as it connects to the past, present and/or future, and falls into one of three categories - people, place, or time. Winners will be selected from across the country to receive great prizes! If you are unsure on where to start, be sure to check out the Defining Moments timeline!

Defining Moments is supported by Canadian Heritage and national partners including the National Film Board and The National Capital Commission.

DeforestACTION Eco-Warriors off to Borneo!

DeforestACTION is proud to announce the 15 Eco-Warriors selected to travel to Borneo and star in a 3D Action Movie while working with local communities to protect and regrow impacted forests! DeforestACTION brings youth from around the world to collaborate on a project to stop the destruction of rainforests, and create a sustainable habitat for orangutans. TakingITGlobal, in partnership with Geodan, Leo Burnett, CGE, and Microsoft Partners in Learning, have teamed up with acclaimed conservationist Dr. Willie Smits to create awareness about the destruction caused by deforestation, restore a full forest eco-system and provide a sustainable livelihood for the local community. These young eco-warriors, who have been spending the last few months fundraising and spreading the word on this environmental cause will be arriving in Borneo this weekend and taking a leading role in this project. Throughout their trip, they will connect with the world though the web, providing updates to students across the globe who are responsible for developing and driving the project.
