Here's a quick update on what was "Hot and Happening" at www.tigweb.org recently:

Help End Homophobia and Transphobia Now
It's 2010 and there is still a long way to go to end violence against people based on their sexual identity. There have been recent reports in the media of young people being bullied to the point of suicide; it is time for this hate to stop, no one should be made to feel bad for who they are or who they love. Commit to take a stand against this type of fear and violence today. Also, check out TIG's contribution to the It Gets Better video campaign, a campaign which encourages gay youth to make videos telling other gay youth that life really does get better after high school!

Best Buy @15 Challenge: Voting Open!
Until the end of October, you can collect and donate points to help TakingITGlobal receive a share of $250,000 through Best Buy's @15 Exchange, an initiative which provides an online platform for teens to share their voice and make a difference. $250,000 will be split between just four organizations! If you're between 13-18 years of age, register and earn points, and then donate them as votes to TakingITGlobal! (You get 1,500 points just for registering - and 300 extra for entering the code TIGX7 on the home page!) If you're not under 18 - recruit a friend or family member to help out!

Support World Food Day and Help 1 Billion Hungry People
Did you know 1 billion people live in chronic hunger? October 16th was internationally recognized as World Food Day and is designed to increase awareness and understanding about the need to alleviate hunger and malnutrition worldwide. With food costs on the rise, more and more people are faced with hunger on a daily basis. How can you help in your own community? Perhaps this means contributing to and volunteering at a local food bank, eating locally grown food, or maybe just inviting a friend over for dinner. Check out TIG's World Food Day page and participate in the discussion on malnutrition and food prices. You can also sign the 1 Billion Hungry international petition to put pressure on politicians to end hunger now!

An Update from our Multilingual Programs - Calling German Volunteers!
At TIG, we are very proud of our multilingual community. In the recent weeks, we welcomed new volunteers into our Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian and Turkish translation teams. Our Swahili team is hard at work for an early January 2011 launch while our Bengali translation team is gearing up for their February 21, 2011 launch. We want to wish them both the best of luck! Sprechen Sie Deutsch? We need your help! TIG is actively looking for German translation volunteers. We are also recruiting volunteers for our Italian, Chinese and Dutch translation teams. If you speak any of these languages, please get in touch with us. Thank you to all our multilingual volunteers and coordinators for their hard work and dedication to bridging language barriers for TIG members across the continents!

Leadership + TIG
How does your involvement with TIG influence you as a leader in your community? Top researchers in the field of leadership have recently approached TakingITGlobal to help study how the purpose of an organization influences it members. Gill Robinson Hickman Ph. D (University of Richmond) and Georgia J. Sorenson Ph. D (University of Maryland) want to hear your thoughts and insights as youth leaders and members of the TakingITGlobal community. Take the short survey before October 30th and be entered into a draw to win one of five $100 Visa Gift Cards!

We wish you a wonderful week!

- Sena, Stephanie, Rucha and the entire TakingITGlobal Team!
