G8 Summit in Italy
The G8 leaders met last week in Italy to discuss the global economy and one of our members was on the scene! Check out Maryam's blog and see what she thinks! Although the G8 has made progress upon Aid for Africa, capping C02 & rising temperatures, as well as pledges on water & food security, we can make a difference and get even more positive results! Check out The Make Poverty History Campaign to add your voice and pressure the G8 into following through with their previous commitments on debt relief. With your help, we've already gained almost 130,000 supporters!

  • Western China: The Battlefield of Uighur vs. Han Chinese
Riots recently arose in Xinjiang, China in a similar situation to what occured in Tibet last year. Violence has erupted between the Uighur, a Chinese ethnic minority, and the Han Chinese, the Chinese ethnic majority, which has caused the death of 156 people. 8000 military troops have moved into Xinjiang, China and a curfew has been announced by the Chinese government . People are very upset about the turmoil and violence. Check out this article for more information and join the discussion about this issue.

    Zelaya seeks Clinton for Help
Ousted Honduran President Zelaya recently met with Hilary Clinton, the U.S. Secretary of State. President Zelaya was forced to leave Honduras on June 28, 2009, by his own military. The Honduran Congress then named Roberto Micheletti as the President. While poor people support Zelaya, more affluent Hondurans cheered for what their Congress has done. The U.S. administration has supported the leader, calling the coup d'etat "unconstitutional".
