Here's a quick update on what was "Hot and Happening" at www.tigweb.org recently:

One World, One Ocean, One Future
"How inappropriate to call this planet earth when it is quite clearly Ocean." - Arthur C. Clarke. Unfortunately, our oceans are in deep deep trouble: 90% of large predatory fish stocks have been exhausted to fill our plates and in many places plankton are outnumbered by plastic. To celebrate World Oceans Day on June 8th, TakingITGlobal invites you to check out our member blogs about the ocean and commit to using less plastic to reduce further stress on marine ecosystems.

Innovative Students Forum 2009
TakingITGlobal and Microsoft hosted an Innovative Students Forum last week during the Microsoft Innovative Teachers Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 15 students from across Asia, selected through participation in an online discussion on TIG, attended to share their thoughts about the future of education and to develop project ideas to address educational challenges in their communities. Read their reflections on the ISF2009 Group Blog!

Partner Spotlight: One Million Acts of Green
One Million Acts of Green is a program which invites Canadians to take an active role in Canada's environmental sustainability. Through your support, we reached our goal of one million acts and have contributed to a Greener Canada. Now's your chance to give one last push before the program goes international. You can keep adding your favourite acts or try some of the new summer acts. On June 9th, visit onemillionactsofgreen.com and see how many Acts of Green we can do in one day!

Get featured in the Global Youth Viewpoints Book
Here is a great opportunity to say what's on your mind and have your voice heard around the world. The Global Youth Viewpoints book is asking the same ten questions to youth (19 and under) around the world and collecting the responses. Here is a taste: What bothers you in your daily life? What practice best helps you stay calm? If there was one thing you could change about adults, what would it be? Check out the Discussion thread to add your voice!

June 12th is the Day to end Child Labour
It is estimated that 165 million children aged 5-14 are engaged in child labour worldwide. Millions of children are engaged in hazardous work environments like mines, working with petro-chemicals and pesticides. TakingITGlobal has partnered with the the International Labour Organization to bring attention to this issue with our Global Issues Page on Child Labour. Commit to purchasing ethical products, get involved with an organization working on this issue and Find out more to learn more about what you can do to help.
