Here's a quick update on what was "Hot and Happening" at www.tigweb.org recently:

Conversation Starter: Poverty
On October 15th 2008, thousands of bloggers united to discuss a single issue - poverty. The aim was to raise awareness, initiate action and to shake the web. TakingITGlobal was among the 12,836 sites that participated. TIGer Wambui from Kenya participated on Blog Against Poverty and discussed that "while it is important to empower the poor so that they lead quality lives, we need to think of how we as a society are participating in actions that perpetuate rather than eliminate poverty." Wambui is right, we need to rethink and react differently to overcome poverty. Read more about Wambui's perspective on combating poverty.

Blog: Celebrate TakingITGlobal Membership!
Olowoyeye Oluwatosin Anu from Nigeria joined TakingITGlobal a year ago and this year she is celebrating her membership. She writes, "many things have transpired and lots of experiences gained. The resources shared on this website have been helpful and the inspiration from fellow TIG members has been amazingly insightful!" Explore her blog and share your stories about what TakingITGlobal has enabled you to do!

Learn more about living better
UNEP and UNESCO have just launched a great new interactive tool for youth to learn more about sustainable living (and working and playing!). YouthXchange has tons of resources and interesting stories to get you thinking and give you the tools you need to lessen your impact on the planet. Check it out!

Love Junk
We're also in love with our friends at The Otesha Project who use peddle power to share their messages of sustainability and personal action with youth in many countries. Their book, From Junk to Funk, has loads of fun chapters that tackle everything from Food to Transportation. You can download it for free! (see Otesha UK for a British version)

Commit to learning more about other cultures
This commitment is at the top of the list with 383 pledges. The commitment calls for intercultural understanding and acceptance which is what we need more today to overcome the conflicts in our world. Commit to educating yourself about different cultures and be a more knowledgeable and tolerant person. Become a global citizen! Are you ready to commit? Click here to commit to learning more about other cultures! (login not required)

TIGTip: Who's added you as a friend?
Did you know that through the 'Friends' area in MyTIG, you can view a listing of everyone who's added you as a friend, and with one simple click, you can add them all as friends too?

We wish you a wonderful week!

- Incia, Vidar, Emily, Mehrdad and the entire TakingITGlobal Team!
