Education for Social Innovation
On May 21st, TakingITGlobal held our third annual Education for Social Innovation Student Symposium to commemorate the projects completed through our Education for Social Innovation course. This course engaged more than 90 teachers and hundreds of students by encouraging them to co-develop classroom based projects on local and global issues. At this event, held at the Ontario Science Centre, students across the Toronto District School Board were able to showcase their various social innovation projects. The Student Symposium allowed participants to recognize that “making a difference” in our communities and the world can be a goal we all help to achieve. Sprout Ideas Summer Camps
Social innovation and entrepreneurship have made it to the forefront of discussions on student engagement as the world looks ahead at how we can achieve the ambitious new United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development. This summer, TakingITGlobal offered five free week-long camps for more than 150 students, developing deep learning competencies through projects that address real world issues. Through a Design Thinking process, students had the opportunity to develop a project or prototype that they pitched to a panel of experts at the end of the week. We're looking for partners interested in launching the camps in their regions!

Shaping Education Through Student Voice
This year we expanded our Student Voice in Education professional learning course, which helped teachers across 5 districts incorporate and empower student voice in the classroom. This process took a collaborative and inquiry based learning approach as students and teachers worked together to achieve curriculum goals. The culminating Student Voice National Showcase hosted students and teachers with the opportunity to share their projects, which ranged from environmental protection to freedom and equality.
