Discover STEM Through Sport!
Cisco's I CAN Learn STEM program is a dynamic classroom program, leveraging video technology, athletes, experts and the TORONTO 2015 Games to bring to life a curriculum that teaches Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) concepts through sport.
Our friends at Cisco are offering educators in Ontario (and around the world) three key components for you to leverage in your classroom:
1. Student books and teacher resources with real-world lessons linking science and math to the games, venues, athletes and sports.
2. Videos breaking down the explosive, high-energy, and high-impact aspects of sport and sport performance and explaining the math and science behind the action.
3. Virtual field trips connecting students to the athletes, venues & experts behind the games. These field trips bring to life concepts from the curriculum and expose students to exciting careers in STEM.
If you’re a teacher looking for fun and engaging student resources, register today. Ontario teachers who register will have a chance to win four tickets to the Opening Ceremony of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games! English resources for participants outside of Ontario and French resources are available for download at www.ciscoicanlearn.ca!

Education for Social Innovation
TIGed has partnered with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) for a third year to grow our professional learning collaboration in a new area - Education for Social Innovation! Almost 100 educators are exploring tools, resources, and pedagogies that allow them to explore curriculum through social innovation projects that reach beyond the classroom. Educators have created projects that are coming to life across Toronto, and will be showcased at a Social Innovation Student Symposium in May at the Ontario Science Centre. Student Voice in Education
TIGed is currently working with 5 school districts and 24 schools across three provinces in Canada (Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario) delivering a blended version of our Empowering Student Voice in Education e-course. 52 educators are learning together as they explore ways to transform the learning partnerships between teachers and students in the classroom, developing classroom-based student voice projects on issues identified by their students. The program is offered by TakingITGlobal with support from the Waterloo Global Science Initiative and endorsement from C21, Canadian Education Association and the Canadian School Boards Association.

What are your Global Education practices?
A research group led by Dr. Curtis Bonk from the School of Education at Indiana University is interested in learning how primary and secondary teachers are using collaborative technologies in their instruction to address global and multicultural education. This research team is currently reaching out to educators involved in global education projects, resources, and initiatives like TakingITGlobal as well as those who have individually designed global curriculum projects to partake in this research study.
They are interested in how teachers foster learner collaboration, multicultural awareness, and the appreciation of different cultures using various learning technologies as well as teacher professional development in these areas. The survey can be found online. Those completing the survey will be given a link to download Dr. Bonk’s latest book, “Adding Some TEC-VARIETY: 100+ Activities for Motivating and Retaining Learners Online” for free!
