Girl Power in Egypt

Heba Elshatoury is no stranger to the TakingITGlobal community. Coming from Egypt and now a University freshman, her story of being on Egypt's first Roller Derby team has impressed us in many ways. What you may not know is that Heba has also been actively involved in advocating youth and women's empowerment. We had the opportunity talking to her back in September and invited her to participate in this year's International Day of the Girl Child celebration, where she shared her incredible experience being a female youth changemaker in front of a global audience hoping to promote awareness and action with respect to the unique challenges and issues girls face nowadays. December's International Days

Visible or invisible, many of us have disabilities that limit our ability to fully participate in some aspect of life. How are you working to include those with difference in your community? December 3rd is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

If you happen to be a volunteer with TIG or other amazing organizations, the International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development on December 5th celebrates the impact of your contributions!

International Migrant's Day on December 18th serves to recognize the contributions made by millions of migrants to the economies of their countries and to promote respect for their basic human rights.

Selected pieces were featured during recent exhibits at the Symposium on Overcoming Isolation and Deepening Social Connectedness and OCAD University's Designing Enabling Economies and Practices summit.
