Celebrating Young Artists Across Canada
|
On January 31st, young artists from across Canada came together to discuss how the arts and social technology can contribute to Canadian identity and citizenship at a landmark event called National Projections. Over 100 attendees gathered to celebrate the culmination of the Defining Moments nationwide youth art program. Youth from coast to coast united through virtual interactive activities, and a featured in-person event in Toronto at the House of Moments art space. The celebration continues this weekend at Ottawa's Winterlude festival, where the winning artists will be presenting their art to the public at Confederation Park following an Awards ceremony that took place at the National Gallery of Canada.

Learner Voice White Paper Released at Education World Forum
|
TakingITGlobal team members co-authored the white paper "From Learner Voice to Emerging Leaders", supported by Promethean, which calls on global leaders to engage students in making decisions about education policies and practices to make it more relevant and meaningful for them. The paper highlights the growing number of students who are disengaged from learning, and was presented during a global "Education Fast Forward" Telepresence session highlighting student perspectives for ministers of education from across the globe. TakingITGlobal offers a professional development course on Student Voice, helping educators develop projects to ensure students are actively engaged in their learning.

Innovate for Good is Taking Off!
|
Innovate for Good is only in its 11th month of existence and already the community is having an impact, with momentum growing from events across the globe. What began as an idea and a partnership between TakingITGlobal and Microsoft is now a community of 800 young social innovators leveraging technology to improve their communities. In December TIG facilitated an Innovate for Good event in Dubai, and events in Washington DC and New York are coming up in the next month.

TakingITGlobal honoured as finalist for Intercultural Innovation Award
|
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group announced TakingITGlobal as one of only 10 global finalists for the 2013 Intercultural Innovation Award. As a finalist, for their work in the field of global youth empowerment and engagement; TakingITGlobal has been asked to present their projects at the Viennese Volkstheatre on Tuesday, February 26th, 2013.
