++ 3. Monthly Theme: Toward Corporate Social Responsibility ++
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How does "Corporate Social Responsibility" (or lack thereof) affect our
daily lives? What are your views on the ever-expanding role of
multinational corporations around the world? Is corporate corruption a
universal phenomenon, or just limited to a relatively few greedy
executives? What can/must be done to alleviate such unethical practices?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has become the standard euphemism
for the kind of social values many corporations often neglect in their
daily practices, yet must strive to achieve for all those affected by
their policies and actions. From massive anti-globalization protests in
Seattle and Genoa, to often violent demonstrations at almost every major
national, regional, and international free trade meeting, ordinary
citizens and activist groups around the world have come together to
demand more transparent and socially-responsible practices from
multinational corporations.
This month, TakingITGlobal takes a closer look at Corporate Social
Responsibility at the dawn of the 21st Century. How are companies
measuring up? Discuss your opinions, get informed, and act:

++ 4. TIG Survey: Role of Youth ++
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This research seeks to demonstrate that globally, young people today
have more power and potential to create change than any previous
generation of youth. It seeks to discover the ways in which young people
define themselves, how they are perceived by society, how they are best
engaged in decision-making, and the role of technology in facilitating
the shifting role of youth.
This report is based on a survey designed by TakingITGlobal's Executive
Director, Jennifer Corriero, based on five prevalent categories: Defining
Youth, Perceptions and Attitudes towards Youth, Youth Participation in
Decision-Making, The Role of Technology, and Youth as Change Agents.
Conducted electronically, this survey was promoted and filled out by
over 1,400 respondents, after which qualitative and quantitative questions
were separated, organized, grouped, and analyzed, with the assistance of a
number of individuals. Finally, this report was created to communicate the
values and trends underlying the statistics and statements of respondents
from around the world.

++ 5. Youth@WSIS ++
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society took
place from December 10th - 12th in Geneva, Switzerland. With the help
of young people from around the world, TakingITGlobal played a major
role in facilitating the youth caucus and the drafting of the youth
paragraph in the Declaration of Principles.
The leadership of youth in Information and Communication Technology for
Development (ICT4D) has translated into enthusiastic and effective
involvement at WSIS; youth have completely self-organized their
involvement with a significant slate of activities from early 2002
through to the Summit.
